Microsoft proposes to renew the licenses for the Russian representative offices of international companies that have not been sanctioned. About a thousand national organizations received offers, Kommersant learned.
The technology giant thus intends to maintain its presence in the market and reduce the level of piracy. Against the background of the absence of analogues for a number of products, companies that are not subject to legal import substitution requirements will continue to use American software, experts say.
- Microsoft at the beginning of March 2022 suspended the sale of goods and the provision of services in Russia due to a special operation in Ukraine. At the same time, at the end of the month, the corporation announced that it would continue to do business in the country with clients not subject to sanctions, including schools and hospitals. The company refused to leave Russia completely.
- In September, Microsoft banned Russians from upgrading computers from Windows 10 to Windows 11. When trying to download the downloader for the latest version of Windows, an empty browser window opened on the company’s official website.
- The developer of the MyOffice programs in April 2023 provided the Russian analogue of Microsoft Teams – the digital workspace for Squadus collaboration. The product is intended for corporate use only.
