Most of the passwords on the list remain in the “hit parade” for many years, and this year the word “guest” took the lead, replacing “123456” from the leading position. Surprisingly, 83% of the passwords on the list can be cracked in less than a second.
NordPass, who started the study, states that despite increasing cybersecurity awareness, people continue to use weak passwords to secure their accounts.
In particular, simple combinations of letters, numbers, and symbols such as “a1b2c3”, “abc123” or “qwerty” are among the most popular passwords in the United States. Here is a list of the 20 most common passwords:
- guest
- 123456
- password
- 12345
- a1b2c3
- 123456789
- Password1
- 1234

Experts recommend not using them in favor of complex and unique passwords, including combinations of letters, numbers and special characters for each account. Also, it will not be superfluous to use password managers for secure storage and editing.
