Discord just announced a new change that will affect you. Soon you will need to update your username, so you’d be better off thinking of something else that’s just as unique and original. Of course, this time without four-digit distinguishing numbers and without a launching pad.

As the company announced, new Discord usernames will be preceded by the “@” symbol, just like other social networks, so the “#” symbol they have used so far has ended. Besides, no more case sensitive combinations. The latter is an attempt by the company to make it easier to connect with its users, and in most cases people cannot find each other due to the slight variations that can exist when looking for each other.

In addition to this detail, most users also failed to remember the distinguishing numbers that follow the username. This, of course, prevented the creation of new connections. In fact, they note that over time, these last numbers have made usernames more and more difficult to both remember and search.

“We understand that this is a big change,” says Stanislav Vishnevsky, co-founder of Discord. “The process can be tricky and it can be difficult for you to let go of that ‘#0001’ that has meant so much to you over the years.” Nevertheless, the change is intended to allow users to “remember, read, write and share” their profiles in a simpler way.

When will you need to change your Discord username?

Changing username in discord

As they say on their website, this news should arrive in the next few weeks. When the username change is available to you, Discord will send a notification to your app so you can complete the process. In addition, the service will prioritize those who use the app the longest, so they will be the first to enable the new option.

If you do not wish to change your username at the time of notification, Discord will let you use the button to delay the procedure. To do this, you will have to enter the application settings. When the time comes again, the service will notify you again. Of course, in the press release, they emphasize that everyone should take advantage of it as soon as it becomes available, and that “it will be when you have the best opportunity to get your desired username.”

Besides, Discord is taking the opportunity to remember that new usernames must comply with the rules of the service.. That is, it will not be allowed to impersonate groups, individuals or organizations, as well as to attack other people or incite hatred. Added to this are users with explicitly sexual language. The same applies to the profile names of each person.

All of these changes came shortly after the company confirmed ChatGPT’s integration with Discord. Similarly, in recent months we’ve seen the app make its way to next-gen consoles such as the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. With this, they seem to be betting on the organic growth of their user baseone step at a time.
