By creating a RAM disk within the video memory, the developers were able to emulate legacy systems that used RAM disks to increase the responsiveness of the operating system.
Taking it one step further, the team used 4GB of GDDR6 GeForce RTX 3050 VRAM on a laptop to create a virtual machine with a 3550MB RAM drive. This setup achieved impressive read and write speeds of 1,960 and 2,497 MB/s respectively, approaching the performance of a standard M.2 SSD.
The Windows 11 Tiny11 build itself is a lightweight version that only requires 2GB of RAM and 8GB of persistent memory.
