Antitrust authorities are asking more and more information from Apple about the operation of Apple Pay.

Almost a year ago, the EU said it was abusing its monopoly company by restricting access to the NFC chip. This makes it difficult for third-party payment systems to compete with Apple Pay.

Today’s story says the European Commission has also circulated a “question series” on Apple Pay and other mobile payment platforms to retailers. The European Commission has confirmed that it is currently “looking” at other mobile payment technologies, including those based on QR codes and Bluetooth.

For its part, Apple says that opening up the NFC chip to other payment systems will explore security and privacy concerns. [Reuters]
