The World Court of the Savelovsky District of Moscow found VK guilty of leaking data of mail users on Mail.ru.

The court fined VK 60,000 rubles for leaking user data from Mail.ru

“VK LLC was found guilty of committing an administrative offense, the company was fined 60 thousand rubles,” Interfax quoted the press secretary of the Savelovsky Court.

The court explained that this was a violation of the requirements of the law “On personal data”. As a result of the incident, “illegal access to a database containing personal data of users of the Internet resource Mail.ru” was obtained.

The reason for the incident is “the penetration of an external attacker in April 2022 into the test circuit of the operator’s IT infrastructure.”

On January 13, 2023, the personal data of Mail.ru users entered the public domain. They ended up online due to an information leak in early 2022 from another service.
