The Wildberries marketplace revealed illegal ways of promoting through external services, and also estimated the damage of such methods at 650 million rubles.
It should be noted that the company filed an application with law enforcement agencies to initiate a criminal case for fraud on an especially large scale.
“According to preliminary data, the amount of damage is about 650 million rubles. The exact amount will be established in the course of investigative actions,” the market said in a message quoted by RIA Novosti.
The illegal promotion scheme was carried out through a bot on Telegram. Merchants set up advertising campaigns on the platform but did not pay for them. According to the site’s security service, about 300 people used this method of promotion. They all have to pay the full cost of advertising.
On Wednesday, the Shot Telegram channel reported that Wildberries employees changed the price tags of expensive products, and then bought them several times cheaper, promoting the products on the platform.
Previously, Wildberries began showing sellers the most popular user search queries.
