Video game company epic games is betting on digital fashion by buying shares in CLO Virtual Fashion, both companies announced on Thursday. The press release doesn’t specify how much each level of investment actually represents, but it’s a clear sign of Epic’s interest in virtual fashion as another facet of its growing metaverse ambitions.
CLO Virtual Fashion offers tools such as fashion design software that already integrates with Epic’s Unreal Engine and a marketplace where fashion designs are bought and sold. Epic is pushing for Unreal Engine to be used for more than just game development, it’s becoming increasingly popular in the automotive world, so it makes sense that Epic would like industries like fashion to also use Unreal Engine.
“Introducing high-quality digital fashion into virtual worlds in real time is challenging and can be a creative barrier for digital fashion creators,” said Epic CTO Kim Libreri. “It’s exciting to see how CLO’s Virtual Fashion solutions work with Unreal Engine to help designers across all industries create realistic digital fashion.”
