Konstantin Ternovoy, head of the department of medical rehabilitation at Sechenov University, in an interview with Gazeta.Ru, it is possible to understand that a person develops osteoporosis from fractures in three places – the radius, vertebrae and femoral neck.
Osteoporosis, a condition in which a person’s bones become brittle, is the cause of death for 25% of the population. Moreover, the Russian doctor noted that in women it often develops more often and earlier than in men. However, smoking, vitamin D deficiency and long-term use of diuretics (the latter promote bone lysis) can accelerate the development of osteoporosis in the stronger sex by about 15-20 years.
