The demand for real estate in Europe by Russians has increased by 17% over the past year. Several EU countries, some of which are considered “unfriendly” in Russia, are among the most popular for buying property abroad. Spain, Greece, Portugal, France and Italy alone accounted for about a third of Russian demand for real estate abroad, the brokers said.
In the period from March 2022 to April 2023, the demand for real estate in Europe by Russians increased by 17.1% compared to the same period of 2021-2022, said the international brokerage company Propriete Generale Group. .
The 10 most popular countries for buying real estate by Russians include five EU countries: Greece, Portugal, France and Italy. These countries accounted for 35% of the demand for real estate abroad of Russians.
Residential apartments and houses remain the most common option for buying real estate in Europe among Russians, according to the Propriete Generale Group.
Despite the sanctions and difficulties in transferring money from Russia, opening and maintaining bank accounts, experts note a constantly high demand from Russians for the purchase of real estate in European countries.
