According to Wired, drone manufacturers are now rethinking their data collection and storage strategies.
Industry officials argue that self-driving cars generate so much information that manufacturing companies like Waymo, Aurora, Cruise, Motional and TuSimple can’t afford to store it all.
The most interesting thing about all this is that only a small fraction of the total amount of data collected turns out to be useful.
Note that Intel analysts calculated that in 2016 an autonomous car produced about 4TB of information per day. But Cruise, for example, says that only 1% of the data the cars collect is useful.
