The light of this event is so bright that it surpassed all known supernovae by 10 times. And you know what’s the most fun? The eruption has been going on for several years, starting with the discovery in 2020.

Scientists estimate that the “explosive show” is due to the absorption of a giant gas cloud by a supermassive black hole located about 8 billion light-years from Earth.

Led by Philip Wiseman, a research fellow at the University of Southampton, astronomers are responsible for detecting the explosion. They describe the phenomenon as “an extreme extension of known black hole accretion scenarios”.

The event was named AT2021lwx. Interestingly, although it was first discovered three years ago, it remained undetected for a while until Wiseman and colleagues calculated how far it was from Earth.
