The headset, which allows users to see virtual worlds with glasses and is aware of their physical environment thanks to the outward facing cameras, is expected to offer a mixed reality experience.

While an official announcement is expected at WWDC on June 5, WSJ suggests that the headset won’t be available to the general public until at least the fall. Mass production is scheduled to begin in December. At the same time, Apple and sources in the supply chain are raising concerns about possible delays, as integrating the headset with new software and resolving manufacturing issues pose significant hurdles.

The report also sheds light on Apple’s original plans for the headset, revealing that the previous concept involved wirelessly connecting the headset to a base station for heavy computing tasks. However, the idea was reportedly shelved early by former Apple design chief Jony Ive.

Unfortunately, the expected price of $3,000 may limit its initial distribution to consumers.
