Jacob pleaded guilty to destruction and cover-up with intent to interfere with a federal investigation, which carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in federal prison. He admitted that the purpose of this stunt was to profit from in-video ads.
Armed with video cameras, a parachute and a selfie stick, Jacob boarded his plane. He jumped out of the plane while recording his parachute landing about 35 minutes before the flight. The plane crashed into dry bushes in the Los Padres National Forest. He then went to the scene of the accident on foot.
But Jacob’s antics did not end there. He deliberately called the crash an accident and waited two days before reporting it to the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB). He even lied to investigators about the location of the plane wreckage.
The whole ordeal serves as a stark reminder that some people are willing to go for Internet fame and monetary gain.
