Sberbank prevented a massive phishing attack on its employees, the organization’s press service reported. Fraudsters exploited the information situation relevant to society, according to the bank.
The bank’s systems prevented employees from receiving emails containing an urgent call to visit the military registration and enlistment office to “clarify personal data.” It is noted that the email contained a malicious file: a “mobilization order”. His discovery threatened to infect the organization’s entire IT infrastructure.
Attackers use the latest news to trick users. The distribution, allegedly on behalf of the military registration and enlistment offices, is related to the annual signing by the President of the Russian Federation of a decree on the military training of citizens in the reserve. Sberbank believes that the issue can be exploited for attacks on other credit institutions.
According to Stanislav Kuznetsov, deputy chairman of the Sberbank board, the military registration and enlistment offices do not send official notices by email.
In mid-April, Vladimir Putin signed the law on electronic subpoenas, which allows you to send such notifications through your personal Gosuslugakh account.
Last week, the Russian Defense Ministry urged citizens to ignore emails with subpoenas purporting to be from military registration and enlistment offices. The Office does not send notifications by email.
