Scammers started using chatbots to compose literate and coherent messages so that Russians trust texts more and click malicious links more often. This was told to Izvestia by Pavel Korostelev, head of the product promotion department of the Security Code company.

IT specialists warned the Russians about a new method of deception using chatbots

According to him, a well-written advertisement increases the chances that the user will believe the scammer. For this reason, the computer scientist recommended not following dubious links. Especially if they talk about big discounts or generous bonuses. Most of the time, attackers send malicious links posing as employees of a bank or delivery service.

In addition, scammers have learned to distribute encryption viruses and browser plug-ins that can steal passwords and bank card details. Therefore, for security reasons, it is better not to store such data in the memory of browsers.

At the same time, the chatbots themselves are useful for ordering food, items, or concert tickets. They also help solve problems in the banking sector. However, you should be careful not to fall for scammers. There are cases where scammers hack into legitimate chatbots of big companies and launch a survey to extort personal data from users.

Experts recommend not divulging personal data, not adding chatbots to groups in instant messaging, and using free tools that are created, for example, to search for books and movies, with caution. Also, authentication can only be done on official websites and apps. Even official bots save all the information they transmit.

  • In the first four months of 2023, the amount of leaked data in large Russian companies increased by 1.5 times, to 75. Since the beginning of May 2023, the court has already fined VK 60,000 rubles for leaking Mail user data. .ru, one of Roskomnadzor Branches — for 30 thousand rubles for leaking employee data.
