As is clear from the text of the copy of the lawsuit, the bloggers demanded that Meta return the money spent on targeted advertising on Instagram and Facebook (owned by Meta, blocked in Russia). The plaintiffs acquired it to promote their posts on these social networks back in 2021 and early 2022.
In March of last year, Meta turned off targeting for Russians, so bloggers couldn’t use inventory they’d already paid for.
The lawsuit was filed in October 2022 by 15 applicants. The appeal to the court was initiated by the social movement Council of Bloggers, said its founder Valeria Rytvina.
The bloggers demanded a payment in the amount of 18 million rubles, of which 15 million were compensation for moral damages, expressed in “moral suffering, stress due to a drop in coverage in social networks”. The court met the requirements of 4.5 million rubles.
