The US Justice Department has accused Chinese operator Wang Weibao, who worked at Apple from 2016 to 2018, of stealing data on the development of unmanned vehicles.

According to the registry, Weibao shares this information with an unnamed Chinese firm. He joined the group and engineers who worked on the Apple self-driving car project.

2,700 project employees out of 5,000 had access to closed databases. Wang is included in this list. According to the Ministry of Justice, “the entire source code” of unmanned vehicles, planning systems, behavior and more were involved.

In 2018, police officers ransacked Wang’s home and found all the information. The former engineer obliged the country for the duration of the investigation and fled to China the same day.

Now Wang Weibao is on the wanted list. He faces up to 10 years in prison. [CNBC]
