The Dip claims to have infringed on Valve’s patents on a number of gaming products, including the Steam Deck, Valve Index VR platform, SteamVR software, and Half-Life: Alyx.
In a complaint filed in federal court, Immersion seeks damages, royalties, and injunctive relief against Valve’s use of the accused products.
Immersion’s extensive portfolio of patents has resulted in licensing and deal deals with major technology companies such as Sony, Microsoft, Apple, Google and others. Even Nintendo, which developed its own Rumble Pak technology for the Nintendo 64, now licenses Immersion technology for its products.
Valve is expected to likely settle the case out of court, as other companies have done in the past. Valve has yet to respond to the lawsuit.
