Yandex intends to transfer the yandex.kz servers to the territory of Kazakhstan, writes the local publication Nur.kz, citing the country’s Ministry of Digital Development. At the beginning of the month, the local registrar split the domain.

Yandex will move yandex.kz servers to Kazakhstan

Yandex stopped opening in Kazakhstan on August 9. The Ministry of Digital Development of Kazakhstan explained that the domain name operation was suspended “for placing an Internet resource in hardware and software systems outside the territory of the Republic of Kazakhstan.”

According to the publication, representatives of the Russian company and the departments of Kazakhstan held a meeting where they discussed the security of personal data of citizens of the republic.

“As part of the desire to strengthen national digital resources and partnerships, Yandex confirmed its readiness to continue working on the transfer to the country’s territory of servers serving the yandex.kz domain; this has already been done for the Yandex Go service,” Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Digital Development said in a statement.

Under the agreements, a plan will be developed to transfer user data from Kazakhstan to servers within the country.

Problems with access to Yandex in the republic began amid media reports that a new Russian law would allow the FSB to access users’ personal data.

Then Finland and Norway prohibited the transfer of data in the Russian Federation to the Yandex international taxi service. It was also reported that the Russian company could sell Yango in Israel.
