Vedomosti, citing sources in the company, reported that the VK holding will create a network of data processing centers (DPC) in Russia.

They have already announced the opening of Pakhra data center in Domodedovo at the end of 2023. In addition, two more data centers are planned to be built near Moscow – now plots are purchased for them. The new data centers should be operational by 2025. In total, approximately 4-4.5 thousand new server racks are planned to be commissioned in five years.

It is assumed that their own data centers will help VK reduce the cost of renting them. Now the cost of one rack for the company is from 85 to 100 thousand rubles per year. VK rents about three thousand racks and spends on them from three to 3.6 billion rubles a year. In addition, the IT giant already operates in Moscow and St. Petersburg has two data centers for 1.2 thousand racks.

According to experts interviewed by the publication, the launch of the project can cost the company about 10-15 billion rubles, and in total VK can invest in it up to 40 billion rubles.
