Researchers from Perm National Research Polytechnic University changed the composition of the anti-caking component of potassium chloride, one of the main potash fertilizers, and increased its fluidity. The scientists presented their development at the “Chemistry” conference. Ecology. Urbanism”.

Potassium chloride is popular for feeding the crops of large farms. However, manure tends to cake. To prevent this, it is treated with an amine, an anti-caking agent. In contrast, potassium chloride becomes more dusty due to the amine, making it more difficult to transport.

Scientists from Perm conducted laboratory tests to figure out which compound would solve the second problem. Potassium chloride was treated with one or more anti-caking agents, then placed under load for 24 hours and exceeded 30 times its own weight.

As a result, it turned out that an amine hydrochloride solution reduces the effect of destroying large crystals of potassium chloride.
