The founder of Telegram, Pavel Durov, denied the existence of a vulnerability in the messaging application for Apple computers.
Russian newspapers write that Telegram allegedly “confirmed a vulnerability” in an application for Apple computers. This is bad. On the contrary, in our message we explained that there was no vulnerability,” Durov wrote.
According to him, the supposed “vulnerability” was as follows: “If an attacker already had access to your computer, they could control your camera and microphone via Telegram. But if the computer is already compromised, accessing the microphone via Telegram is the least of the problems to worry about.”
- As previously reported, Google engineer Den Reva discovered a weak spot in the messaging app for macOS. He said that a vulnerability was found in the messenger that allows the camera and microphone to be activated.
- Later, the Russian media, citing message Telegram wrote on Twitter that the company had confirmed the problem. Durov said the media misinterpreted the comment.
The Telegram founder lamented that users “as a result, may not care about real threats.”
“For example, on WhatsApp, simply accepting a call or watching a video was enough for an attacker to gain full access to your phone. Due to this vulnerability, WhatsApp became a spyware that allowed hackers to hack into any smartphone with WhatsApp,” Durov recalled.
