these are some true first impressions, since I just pulled out of the box the Motorola Edge 40 Pro, a new high-end Chicago brand with an eye-catching design. I will only comment on the most relevant aspects of the device, expecting a full review soon.

The mobile phone has a solid construction (brushed aluminum body) with a matte finish on the glass cover that repels fingerprints. The triple camera module is also located on the rear panel, which is not at all conspicuous, although it gives continuity to the curves present at the edges of the smartphone.

Motorola decided to place all the volume and power buttons on the right side for easy access. To unlock the device, people have to resort to a sensor built into the display that responds effectively.

At the base of the design are a SIM slot, a USB-C charging port, and a stereo audio channel (the other is on the top of the device).

In general terms, the design of the Edge 40 Pro combines strength, elegance and functionality in one package, and this is what many users ask for when buying a cell phone at the top of the market.

Refresh rate up to 165Hz

The screen is another element that stands out on the Motorola Edge 40 Pro, not only because of its technology, but also because of its finish (Corning Gorilla Glass Victus). Like other members of the Edge series, the edges are curved, although the image doesn’t extend to where the curves end, which aids media handling.

The display measures 6.67 inches and has a Full HD+ resolution, as well as a refresh rate of up to 165 Hz (there is an option to choose this in the general configuration, among others, if you want to increase battery life), which means that it refreshes its image 165 once per second.

After I managed to play a few clips, I noticed smooth graphics and really vibrant colors. This is also replicated, for example, in the series Formula 1: Race to Survivein which moments a lot of action is not enough.

Having tested other screens in the Edge series, the Edge 40 Pro is one of the best, if not the best, so far. It is worth saying that its size also contributes to the fact that it can be manipulated with one hand.

Ready for demanding applications

The new member of the Edge family is powered by a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor (GPU with 25% faster performance than its predecessor) and 12GB of RAM (LPDDR5X). These are state-of-the-art elements that promise more than optimal performance on any mobile platform.

Already in practice, in the short time that I was able to test the device for these first impressions, the phone “does not hurt at all”, in simple terms: it quickly launches applications, smooth navigation through the general interface. and web content deployment is instantaneous. You can’t ask for more!

Of course, the good response is helped by the fact that the phone is compatible with 5G and up to Wi-Fi 7, which ensures smooth downloads both at home and on the go.

In terms of autonomy, Motorola Edge 40 Pro is equipped with a 4600 mAh battery that can last all day. What is surprising about this section, however, is that the firm has equipped the mobile with a 125W fast charger: according to the information provided by the manufacturer, it will be ready in about 35 minutes. For those times when you need to charge it without cables, that’s 15W.

other aspects

For a full review, I’ll detail the results of the triple camera – two 50MP each and a dedicated 12MP one for portraits – another element that Motorola believes has improved a lot, and everything related to Ready For, the platform. which allows you to use the phone as a mobile console, desktop computer or game console on the big screen.

At the moment, the outstanding features of the device are complemented by Android 13 certifications, Dolby Vision (picture) and Dolby Audio (sound), water and dust resistance (IP68 classification), 60-megapixel selfie camera, 256 GB of memory, 8K video recording. and a rich set of security features such as secure folder and network protection.

By the way, the package prepared by Motorola for customers in Mexico includes a remote control for Ready For, a transparent case and, of course, a charger.

first findings

When I first got to know the Motorola Edge 40 Pro, I was very pleased with both its sleek design and the visual response of the screen, especially in dynamic multimedia content.

Likewise, the additional customization features provided by the manufacturer don’t seem too much. On the contrary, they work in favor of the Android 13 operating system to make it a little more intuitive.

And I don’t want to end without mentioning the price of the Edge 40 Pro in Mexico: 25,999 pesos, so it’s on par with the most expensive high-end in the local market, like the iPhone 14 Pro.

The question remains up in the air: is Motorola’s new cell phone enough for a user to prefer it to the California brand’s variant? It would be unfair to answer him on these first impressions.
