Leonard Blavatnik dumped his last big asset in Russia

Billionaire and investor Leonard Blavatnik has sold his $1.2 billion stake in UC Rusal, Bloomberg reports, citing sources.

The agency’s interlocutors did not name the buyer and did not disclose the details of the transaction, but specified that it was completed in the second half of 2022. Blavatnik’s stake in the company was valued at $610 million at the end of last year.

Blavatnik tried for several years to sell her stake in Rusal, but the process was complicated by her association with billionaire Viktor Vekselberg, who is under Western sanctions, Bloomberg notes.

Blavatnik’s control group, Access Industries, owns multiple assets, including a 20% stake in LyondellBasell and control of Warner Music. In February 2022, the holding’s portfolio company, British mobile game developer TripleDot Studios, was granted unicorn status.
