Last Tuesday (17), a court in Texas, United States, rejected his appeal apple in a case patent infringement. According to the Marshall city court, the company is required to pay the company US$300 million (approximately R$14.6 million at the current exchange rate). PanOptis Patentinitiated legal action.

The decision on the fine was made in 2021, when Apple had the opportunity to hold a second hearing – the original process began in 2019. However, District Judge Rodney Gilstrap denied requests to hold a third hearing and clear the violation charges.

The patentee claims that Apple is violating the technology rights of Optis Wireless Technology LLC. The company would use solutions in 4G and LTE connectivity components on different models of iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch without permission.

multi million fine

Apple asked the judge to reduce the sentence. Dev also said that there were various problems in the second hearing, such as lack of evidence, expert report and even the large amount of money demanded by the complainant company.

Initially, Apple was fined $506 million, but in subsequent trials this amount was reduced to $300 million. It’s worth noting that Apple is also involved in another lawsuit regarding PanOptis in the UK.
