The survey found that three times more Americans predict the negative effects of AI compared to those who don’t. 61% of respondents believe artificial intelligence is a danger to humanity, and only 22% disagree.

The growing popularity of AI, exemplified by the popularity of OpenAI’s ChatGPT chatbot, has sparked a public debate and an AI arms race between major tech companies like Microsoft and Google.

Legislators and industry leaders also draw attention to these issues. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman recently stressed that regulation must be made (but not difficult) to prevent potential abuse of artificial intelligence in his address to the US Congress.
