The senators suggested that the Russian government consider introducing taxes for individuals and legal entities on Internet income, including income received from blogging activities.
This was reported by TASS with reference to the draft resolution of the Federation Council. The document was prepared by the Committee of the Federation Council on the budget and financial markets. It is scheduled to be adopted at a meeting on Wednesday 24 May.
Committee deputy head Andrei Epishin noted that amendments to the Tax Code may be required to create an appropriate tax mechanism for bloggers. According to him, the tax regimes for bloggers have not yet been discussed in detail. In addition, there are no specific instructions for the Committee yet, the initiative was discussed only at the expert level.
The Central Bank of Russia in mid-May called for greater accountability for illegal investment tips, including bloggers and Telegram channels.
- In early March, a similar criminal case was launched against the fitness blogger Lerchek and her husband. They are accused of not paying taxes for 300 million rubles.
- After Lerchek, a criminal case for tax evasion for 120 million rubles was opened against the blogger Alexandra Mitroshina. She is accused of creating several sole proprietorships to maintain a simplified tax system.
- In April, the author of The Marathon of Wishes, Elena Blinovskaya, was detained while trying to cross the border. She was charged with tax evasion and money laundering.
