Last Sunday (22), website Beeping Computer revealed that scammers are using videos Deepfakes from elon musk to advertise new cryptocurrency in a scam campaign. The website of the fake cryptocurrency platform BitVex It promises returns of up to 30% on asset deposits.

In addition to using the Tesla CEO’s face, the campaign also managed to hack YouTube accounts to host fake videos about the platform. In one of the fake videos, Elon Musk says he has invested $50 million and promoted the platform for other people to invest in the scam.

On its website, BitVex claims Elon Musk is the CEO, while Binance founder Changpeng Zhao and Ark Invest’s Cathie Wood are backers of the project. Apparently, only $1700 has been stolen so far with the elaborate plan.

Don’t fall for the scam

To fall for the scam, users deposit cryptocurrencies on BitVex and choose an investment plan, but the coins will be sent to the scammer’s wallet. For this reason, it is very important to pay attention to all the details when investing, and if Elon Musk or another icon had really participated in the project, the information would have spread in various channels.

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) claims that since 2020, thousands of people in the United States have lost more than $80 million in cryptocurrency-related scams. Since 2018, the name Elon Musk has been used to popularize fake cryptocurrencies among investors.
