300 businessmen awaiting trial in Moscow pre-trial detention centers – Moscow Business Ombudsman

He referred to the issue of humanization of criminal law policy for companies and recalled the instruction of the President of the Russian Federation to prepare measures to decriminalize economic crimes.

“Regarding the humanization of criminal law policy for companies, first of all what the president talks about, now there is a tendency to humanize and liberalize the criminal law system… But, despite all the steps , I go to the preventive detention center every month with my lawyers and experts: 300 business entities are now in jail. The limits are 15%, ”Mineeva noted, her words are quoted by Kommersant.

He added that of all the cases, the businessmen managed to avoid arrest thanks to bail in only three cases. At the same time, 90% of arrested businessmen were placed in a pretrial detention center for fraud cases, that is, on suspicion of non-violent crimes.

The Ombudsman for Companies considers it necessary to limit the detention of businessmen in relation to economic crimes. Mineeva also proposes to change the approach to choosing a preventive measure. It must be such that the entrepreneur has the opportunity to continue the business.

Earlier, the State Duma approved a bill to mitigate the punishment for economic crimes. It suggests that businessmen and bankers will be able to avoid criminal prosecution in case of damages.
