A man stole several iPhones using a cardboard box on his head to avoid being recognized during the crime. It sounds like a joke, but it’s true. The case was heard last Saturday in Miami Gardens, Florida, USA (3). At first, the thief seems to have succeeded in his forced plan, as evidenced by the security footage, but according to the police report. NBC Miamiwas later arrested.
The theft took place at a cell phone repair shop called Irepair Tech, which fortunately had cameras that captured the exact moment when the “cardboard head” was trying to commit the crime.
As the published video reveals, the attacker breaks the glass of the iPhone’s location and starts putting them in a bag. But in a careless moment, the man lifts the cardboard box and reveals his identity. I guess that wasn’t part of the perfect plan, was it?
The owner of the robbed shop, Jeremias Berganza, decided to investigate and go after the culprit after seeing the footage. After asking around, he found out that the thief was in the mall called Plaza, where his cell phone business is located. The suspect was drinking with friends at a liquor store. Berganza then called the local police and the cardboard maker was arrested.
The thief was later identified as 33-year-old Claude Vincent Griffin, who was charged with robbery, crime and possession of cocaine and resisting arrest. According to Berganza, Griffin managed to steal 19 iPhones and $8,000 in cash, for a total of $15,000.
