New foldable phone samsung galaxy z flip 5 was subjected to particularly severe strength tests.
Popular tech YouTuber Zach Nelson of JerryRigEverything ran his usual series of tough tests on the new Galaxy Z Flip 5, including scratches, scuffs, burns and bends.
It’s always a little embarrassing to see a brand new expensive phone go through such a horror, but Nelson does it in a way that you don’t have to.
Of course, with regular day-to-day use, the Galaxy Z Flip 5 will never experience anything close to what a YouTuber puts the device through, but it does at least give you an idea of how rugged the device really is.
In the case of the Samsung Flip 5, the new phone performs well overall. For example, the outer screen uses the highly resistant Gorilla Glass Victus 2 and therefore excels in scratch tests. However, to make it foldable, the inner screen is made of plastic and therefore more prone to dents and gouges than scratches.
As usual, Nelson takes out a utility knife and runs it across the body of the phone to see if he likes it (spoiler: no). And be sure to keep watching so you can take the “fun little dirt test” and see how the Flip 5 handles open flames.
Finally, as usual with strength tests, Nelson runs his own very unscientific but highly effective bending test, in which he uses his bare hands and brute force to see if the device will hold up. Now, when it comes to foldable phones, you’d think snapping them in half would be as easy as cracking a cookie, but the Galaxy Z Flip 5 holds up impressively well with the new hinge and, more importantly, stays in one place. , whole object.
It must be said that even though Samsung’s $1,000 foldable phone looks a lot worse with wear and tear, it held up pretty well to Nelson’s durability test.
The YouTuber is clearly impressed with the Flip 5 and after a durability test, he liked it even more. In fact, Nelson says he’s considering using it to replace his trusty Galaxy Note 10, though he wants to see how his next teardown goes first.
