After fans’ long wait, Samsung officially announced the launch of the Galaxy S24 series this Wednesday (17). The new devices feature powerful hardware, including Exynos 2400 (S24 and S24+) and Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 (S24 Ultra) chipsets. But the highlight of mobile phones is something else: Galaxy AI tool.

With the power of artificial intelligence, smartphones will have features such as simultaneous translation in calls, text translation, transcription of voice recording and circular search with Google.

With launches, users always begin to question what the new generation brings that is different from the old one. In this case, the Galaxy S23 was highly acclaimed in 2023 and was considered one of the best mobile phones of the year.

So, putting these side by side, how big was the evolution between the Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S23? Check out the comparison between the two models below. TecMundo supplied.

Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S23

design and construction

The edges of the Galaxy S24 are flat and have an aluminum-based structure. Aesthetically, it is very similar to the S23 standard, which is also made of aluminum.

Samsung (and users) seem to have liked the look of the S23 so much that the model was also available on handsets like the Galaxy A54.

Screen

The new Galaxy S24 comes with a 6.2-inch screen, Full HD +, up to 120 Hz refresh rate, 2X Dynamic AMOLED and up to 2,600 nits of brightness.

The screen of the latest model is almost identical to the screen of the Galaxy S23, with a 6.1-inch screen, Full HD +, up to 120 Hz refresh rate, 2X Dynamic AMOLED and up to 1,750 nits of brightness.

Equipment

Galaxy S24, which many people overlooked, will be released in Brazil with the Exynos 2400 processor. Samsung’s proprietary chipset offers 1.7 times more CPU performance and 14.7 times more artificial intelligence performance compared to the previous Exynos 2200.

In the Galaxy S23, the processor is the popular Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. The Qualcomm chipset was developed for the South Korean company’s devices and offers 30% better CPU and 40% better GPU performance compared to Snapdragon 8 Gen 1.

Storage and memory

The recently announced Galaxy S24 appeared with 128 GB, 256 GB and 512 GB storage versions. However, the 512 GB version will not come to Brazil at the moment. In terms of memory, all versions have 12GB of RAM.

Last year’s handset has almost the same memory and storage capabilities as its “little brother”. The S23 is sold in 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB, all with 8GB of RAM.

cameras

Samsung presented the Galaxy S24 with three lenses on the back: sensors 50 MP (wide), 12 MP (ultrawide) and 10 MP (telephoto with 3x optical zoom). There is a 12 MP lens on the front.

The Galaxy S23 was launched almost a year ago with similar cameras of 50 MP, 10 MP and 12 MP, and a 12 MP camera on the front.

Battery

The standard Galaxy S24 showed a very slight improvement compared to the S23’s battery: only 100 mAh. While the newest one has a capacity of 4,000 mAh, last year’s battery came with a 3,900 mAh battery.

Galaxy S24

Galaxy S24+ and Galaxy S23+

design and construction

Just like the standard Galaxy 24, the S24+ has thinner bezels and flatter corners around the screen compared to the Galaxy S23+.

Aluminum is used in the construction of both the 2024 models and the models released last year. The two mobile phone lines are very similar and bring little aesthetic change.

Screen

Galaxy S24+ has a 6.7-inch display, QHD+, up to 120Hz refresh rate, 2X Dynamic AMOLED, and up to 2,600 nits of brightness.

The S23+’s screen is slightly smaller at 6.6 inches. For the rest, the mobile phone offers Full HD+, up to 120 Hz refresh rate, 2X Dynamic AMOLED and up to 1,750 nits of brightness.

Equipment

Like the standard model of the family, S24+ will have the Exynos 2400 processor. The Galaxy S23+ was in line with the S23 and arrived on national soil with the (still) powerful Snapdragon 8 Gen 2.

Storage and memory

Samsung announced the Galaxy S24+ with 256 GB and 512 GB versions in addition to 12 GB RAM. The Galaxy S23+ has the same 256GB and 512GB storage versions. On the other hand, last year’s smartphone only has 8 GB of RAM.

cameras

The S24+ has exactly the same camera set as the standard model in the new series. On the back, there are 50 MP (wide), 12 MP (ultra-wide) and 10 MP (telephoto with 3x optical zoom) sensors. There is a 12 MP lens on the front.

The South Korean’s camera choice fell between the S23 and S23+. The most advanced model has the same 50 MP, 10 MP and 12 MP lenses in addition to the 12 MP on the front.

Battery

The battery of the S24+ is much larger than the S24 because it reaches 4,900 mAh. It’s only 200mAh larger than the S23+, which has a capacity of 4,700mAh.

Comparison of Galaxy S24 Ultra and Galaxy S23 Ultra

design and construction

S24 Ultra appeared with its new design. Titanium is used in the frame instead of the aluminum that comes in the S23 Ultra. Its structure is similar to the iPhone 15 Pro and is much more durable.

Despite the material change, the S24 Ultra and S23 Ultra remain very similar aesthetically. The handsets are “bigger” and more powerful than other models in the series, as well as having S-Pen connectivity.

Screen

S24 Ultra comes with a 6.8-inch QHD + display, 2X Dynamic AMOLED and up to 120 Hz refresh rate.

The “big brother” of the S24 Ultra also has almost the same configurations: 6.8-inch Quad HD + display, 2X Dynamic AMOLED and refresh rate up to 120 Hz

Equipment

Unlike the other two “simpler” models in the series, the S24 Ultra comes with the powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset, one of the best processors today with additional AI functions.

The S23 Ultra is not far behind and was launched last year with the then-best Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. It is about 30% weaker than Snapdragon 8 Gen 3.

Storage and memory

Samsung launched the Galaxy S24 Ultra with 256 GB, 512 GB and 1 TB storage. They all come with 12GB of memory.

Compared to the Galaxy S23 Ultra, there is almost no change in this regard because it also has versions with up to 1 TB of storage and 12 GB of RAM.

cameras

There continue to be four lenses on the back of the S24 Ultra: 200 MP main sensor, 50 MP telephoto with 5x optical zoom, another telephoto with 3x optical zoom and again a 12 MP ultra-wide lens. On the front, there is a 12 MP lens for selfie lovers.

On the S23 Ultra, the configuration is almost the same: 200 MP main camera, 12 MP ultra-wide camera and two more 10.0 MP telephoto lenses. Optical zoom is 3x and 10x, while digital zoom goes up to 100x.

Battery

Both the S24 Ultra and S23 Ultra came with the same nominal battery capacity of 5,000 mAh. Due to the better processor, the new mobile phone promises greater autonomy and longer battery life.

Is the Galaxy S23 still worth it?

After a new mobile phone model is released, consumers always ask themselves whether it is worth buying a new model or a device that came a while ago. This question is quite apt when it comes to Samsung’s premium family.

The mobile phones in the S23 and S24 series do not offer radical differences between them. New generation processors allow the S24, S24+ and S24 Ultra to outperform their “big brothers”, for example, in games.

Additionally, Samsung’s launch comes with Galaxy AI, which promises to handle tasks like photo editing, instant translation, and more.

Aside from questions about specifications, anyone looking to buy a new mobile phone also needs to consider price. Samsung announced new mobile phones with the following values: Galaxy S24: R$ 5,999 (128 GB) and R$ 6,499 (256 GB); Galaxy S24+: R$ 6,999 (256 GB) and R$ 7,999 (512 GB); Galaxy S24 Ultra: R$ 9,999 (256 GB), R$ 10,999 (512 GB) and R$ 12,999 (1 TB).

When you search on the internet, it is possible to find the Galaxy S23 for an average of R$ 3.5 thousand; The Galaxy S23+ starts at R$ 4,800 and the Galaxy S23 Ultra at R$ 5,500.

However, the decision to buy newer or older devices depends on your usage and budget. Are you an enthusiast and have some money to spare? The Galaxy S24 series could be ideal. If you don’t care about having the “mobile phone of the time” and your budget is limited, you can look at the devices in the S23 family with pleasure.
