The Apple Watch Series 9 and Ultra 2 will go on sale in the US again, but without one of their star features. This is the price of the open dispute between Apple and Masimo, which kept the company under control for several weeks and led to a ban on the sale of Apple smartwatches.
The company has announced that Apple will once again make Apple Watch Series 9 and Apple Watch Ultra 2 available starting today, January 18, but all blood oxygen measurement features will be disabled. This appears to be the only solution the company has found to get around the sales ban. However, this is a software limitation, so the future, if agreement is reached, can be easily restored.
There will be no changes for users who purchased the Series 9 or Ultra 2 before measures were introduced to prevent Apple from selling them. and they will not be left without the functionality they paid forand that it was working at the time of purchase.
Apple Watch Series 9 and Ultra 2 return to stores
The company is currently appealing the decision to try to retain one of the key features of its flagship device, but what will happen in the future remains open. be an unsolved mystery. In this regard, Apple released a statement explaining the current situation:
Apple’s appeal is ongoing, and we believe the USITC’s decision should be reversed by the US Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. We strongly disagree with the USITC decision and the resulting orders.
Pending an appeal, Apple is taking steps to comply with the ruling while ensuring customers have access to Apple Watch with limited features. These steps include introducing a version of the Apple Watch Series 9 and Apple Watch Ultra 2 in the US without the Blood Oxygen feature. This will not affect previously purchased Apple Watch devices with Blood Oxygen.
“Apple Watch Series 9 and Apple Watch Ultra 2 without Blood Oxygen will be available on apple.com starting January 18 at 6 a.m. PT and in Apple Stores starting January 18.”
