A little over a month after WWDC 2024Expectations are growing for the announcements Apple will make regarding its operating systems. The event is expected to focus heavily on the artificial intelligence powered by iOS 18 and the next version of VisionOS, Apple’s Vision Pro software. But there will also be news on other Apple platforms; among them introduction watchOS 11 for him Apple Watch.
So far, little is known about what’s new in watchOS 11. Unlike watchOS 10, which marked a major change for the Apple Watch operating system with the introduction of widgets and better use of contextual information, it has said virtually nothing about its successor. At least until now, of course.
At the moment, everything points to watchOS 11 This will be a small update for Apple Watch. Although this does not mean that it does not contain important issues that deserve attention. Especially regarding the list of smartwatches compatible with this new version. The fact is that the people of Cupertino were ready to abandon one of their historical models.
Apple Watch Series 4 will not receive watchOS 11
According to the French portal iPhoneSoft, watchOS 11 update will not be available for Apple Watch Series 4. This model, released in 2018, was a very important evolutionary leap for the watch catalog of the company, led by Tim Cook.
Along with this version, the Apple Watch introduced 40 and 44 mm cases, moving away from the 38 and 42 mm cases used in the first three generations of the device. This allowed for a 30% larger screen with thinner edges, a processor twice as powerful as the previous model, and the ability to perform electrocardiograms.
There’s no mention of why the Apple Watch Series 4 won’t get watchOS 11, although it doesn’t take much thinking to figure out. After all, we’re talking about the device. more than 5 years and it has more than completed its cycle. If this determination holds true, this model will outlive a couple more software generations than the Series 3, which stopped receiving updates in 2022.
