Classic video player VLC Player has shown off its new automatic subtitle adding tool that uses artificial intelligence. This feature was introduced at CES 2025 this Tuesday (07).

As shown in the demonstration, VLC Player transcribes and translates scene content. Processing takes place with open-source artificial intelligence models.

According to VideoLAN president Jean-Baptiste Kempf, the plan will include support for more than 100 languages. “The most important thing is that it works locally, offline and without any cloud services,” the manager emphasized.

Transcribing and translating content are not new functions for VLC Player, but the application stands out by opting for a local rendering solution without internet.

Unfortunately for video player users, The release date of the subtitle tool has not been announced.
