Over the years, the iPad has been the place to find some of Apple’s most innovative ideas. And the new generation iPad Proofficially unveiled Tuesday at a pre-recorded event, is no exception.
This device can claim several records: it is the first device with the Apple M4 chip, the first large OLED screen created by Apple, the first panel with Tandem technology, and the company’s thinnest product.
This, combined with a minimalistic and extremely durable design, the benefits of the iPadOS operating system and a new set of accessories, will allow you to get even more out of the entire offering. Eventually: dream product this leaves any rival light years away.

iPad Pro 2024: First major design change in more than five years
The last time the iPad Pro received a major update was in 2018, when it adopted the aesthetic we know today. Since then, the only thing that has changed on the outside is the photo module, which has become square. The rest is practically the same. Up to this day.
New iPad Pro 2024. maintains visual identity, but it welcomes a slightly larger screen and, above all, it is significantly smaller. In particular, the thickness of the 13-inch version varies from 0.64 cm and 682 grams to 0.51 cm and 579, respectively. However, these changes do not affect durability, Apple said at the event.
The company also changed the appearance of the photo module of the iPad Pro 2024, which is now covered with aluminum (in the previous generation it was glass), and replaced the “space gray” color with a new, darker “space black”. On the other hand, the silver variant remains unchanged.

Hello OLED screen on iPad Pro
Another great thing about this new generation is the screen, which says goodbye to Mini LED technology in favor of OLED. This technology is not new for Apple, as the company has been implementing it in the iPhone and Apple Watch for many years. What’s new in the company’s catalog is that we see it in such a large device as the iPad Pro.
However, this panel is not just an OLED. Apple chose Tandem OLED panel, which John Ternus (Senior Vice President of Hardware Engineering at Apple) defined as combining two screens into one. So, as explained during the presentation, Apple can offer much higher brightness levels: 1000 nits in full screen mode and 1600 peak HDR brightness.
And all this while maintaining other technologies such as True Tone, ProMotion (adaptive refresh rate from 10 to 120 Hz), DCI-P3 color space or almost infinite contrast. And because it’s an OLED screen, the pixels turn off individually to ensure perfect blacks.
On the other hand, for the first time Apple is offering the opportunity to purchase this iPad with nanotextured glass which improves performance in certain scenarios. However, this option is only available on 1TB and 2TB models.

Apple M4 debuts on iPad Pro
For the first time, the iPad Pro was chosen as the device to debut the Apple Silicon series chip. Specifically, This new model welcomes the Apple M4 SoCwhich seems like a minor, albeit interesting, evolution from the M3 that the brand currently puts on Macs.
The main change with the Apple M4 is that, like the M3, it is made in three nanometers. However, in this case This is a second generation process.. An improvement that, among other things, will improve the energy efficiency of the chip.

The other big change is in the Neural Engine or NPU, the element responsible for processing all things artificial intelligence. It still has 16 cores, but the brand says its performance along with ML accelerators in the CPU, high-performance GPU and higher memory bandwidth is amazing.
Two different versions of the Apple M4 will be sold:
- 256GB or 512GB iPad Pro 2024 models will include a version with a 9-core processor (6 for efficiency and 3 for performance) and 8GB of RAM.
- The 1TB or 2TB versions will come with a 10-core processor option (6 efficiency and 3 performance) and 16GB of RAM.
Regarding performance, Apple has revealed few details. So we’ll have to wait for the first devices to find out in detail how it is positioned in relation to the Apple M3, which debuted a few months ago on the Mac.

New cameras, new accessories
iPad Pro welcomes new 12 megapixel camera which Apple says delivers vibrant images with Smart HDR, better colors and textures, and greater detail in low light conditions. Plus, thanks to the use of artificial intelligence, iPad Pro scans documents even better and, for example, activates the new True Tone flash to eliminate shadows where needed.
Besides, Both the front-facing camera and Face ID are now located on the side (if you hold the iPad vertically) or on the top. – if you hold the iPad horizontally–. This position solves one of the main shortcomings of the iPad and is much more beneficial when using the tablet in conjunction with the Magic Keyboard.
Speaking of accessories, iPad Pro introduces a new Apple Pencil Pro with pressure and location sensors via the Find My network, as well as a new, thinner, lighter, and more versatile Magic Keyboard.

When will the new iPad Pro 2024 arrive?
The new 2024 iPad Pro is available in most countries. It will hit stores May 15 next year. However, apartments can be reserved from Tuesday through the usual channels.
The product, as in previous cases, is the 2024 iPad Pro. It is sold in two sizes: 11 and 13 inches.. Both, unlike previous years, feature the same screen technology. The prices are as follows:
- iPad Pro 11 inch 2024from €1,199/$999/MXN 21,999.
- iPad Pro 13 inches 2024from €1,549/$1,299/MXN 28,999.
