Users’ pockets are getting tighter every day, and cell phone prices have not done much to ease the domestic economy in recent years, especially when we’re talking about high-end phones like the line iPhone 15 or Samsung Galaxy S24.
The truth is that a new hardware component coming to these devices in 2025 could push prices up even further.
Leaker Digital Chat Station said on Weibo that the price of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 (with model number SM8750) will “definitely increase significantly.” The source added that the manufacturer may completely abandon its upcoming flagship Pro phone due to the price increase. Exact numbers for the increase were not given, but it is still bad news for high-end Android phone makers.
This is because processors have always been a factor in driving up prices and passing that advantage on to users. But manufacturers can also make cuts in other areas (eg cameras, build quality, display) if they want to stay at the same price. Which will also damage consumer ambitions in the long run.
The good news is that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 will be the first smartphone chipset to be powered by Qualcomm’s custom Oryon processor, promising a big performance leap over Apple’s iPhone.
