Motorola has been releasing new phones non-stop this year and it doesn’t look like it’s going to stop anytime soon. According to a report by 91Mobiles Hindi, Motorola is set to launch another phone in India, the Motorola Edge 50 5G. This first set of renders gives us a good idea of what to expect.
The Motorola Edge 50 5G will hold the unique title of being the world’s thinnest MIL-810 military-grade phone. However, this rugged phone has some interesting design decisions that seem at odds with a “military-grade” phone.
The Motorola Edge 50 5G could feature a 6.4-inch curved POLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate. This is interesting considering the military-grade certification. You would think that curved screens would be more susceptible to impact when dropped, so it will be interesting to see how this plays out.
The renders we see show three colors: Koala Gray, Jungle Green (vegan leather), and Peach Fuzz (Pantone certified). The Koala Gray and Peach Fuzz colors are similar to those already on the Razr 2024 and Razr Plus 2024, although Jungle Green looks a little different than the Razr Plus 2024’s Spring Green. It’s more of a turquoise green, at least according to the renders.
On the back, it appears to have a triple-lens setup with focal lengths ranging from 12mm to 72mm. The main camera is a 50MP wide-angle lens with optical image stabilization. The other two lenses are likely a 13MP ultra-wide-angle lens and a 10MP telephoto lens. On the front, there appears to be a 32MP selfie camera hidden in a notch on the front display.
On the inside, the Motorola Edge 50 5G could be powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 7300 chipset. The battery is a 4,400mAh unit with wired charging speeds of up to 68W.
This appears to be an India-specific launch, so it’s unlikely we’ll see this launch in the US. Still, Motorola is doing something interesting. another An Edge series phone, considering we already have the Edge 50 Fusion, Edge 50 Pro and Edge 50 Ultra announced earlier this year, and the Motorola Edge 2024 we tested didn’t impress us too much.
