We’ve already discussed that one of the most time-consuming aspects of switching from one operating system to another is importing our collection of photos and apps. We’ve already told you how to transfer photos and videos from Google Photos to iCloud if you’re switching from Android to iPhone, and this time we’ll tell you how to transfer photos from iCloud to Google Photos using Apple’s official method, which, while it may take a couple of days, is pretty simple.
How to transfer photos from Google Photos to iCloud?
The first step is to go to https://privacy.apple.com/ in a web browser. You can do this from a computer, whether it is a PC or a Mac, or from a mobile phone browser.
Now sign in using your Apple ID. Remember that two-step verification must be enabled on your Apple account to use this service.
The next step is to select an option. Transfer a copy of your data.
Now you will see a field that says Choose where you want to transfer your photos and videos.. There select Google Photos. You will then see the option to select the type of files you want to transfer, i.e. Photo or one Video. Select the settings you want to transfer.
Now sign in to your Google account. If you also have two-step verification enabled, you will need to authenticate. Then allow Apple to add photos to your account and click Confirm translation.
Please note that the transfer may take three to seven days. However, once your images have been transferred, you will receive an email from Apple confirming delivery.
However, keep in mind that there are some limitations when transferring photos from Google Photos to iCloud.
First, there’s the type of files supported. Apple’s support page states that supported files are .jpg, .png, .webp, .gif, some RAW files, .mpg, .mod, .mmv, .tod, .wmv, .asf, .avi, .mov, .m4v, .3gp, .3g2, .mp4, .m2t, .m2ts, .mts, and .mkv.
Another fundamental aspect is that if you edit a photo, Apple will only transfer the most recent image, not the original file. That is, any duplicate appears as a single photo.
On the other hand, if Google Photos organizes your images into albums, each album can contain a maximum of 20,000 photos. That limit seems reasonable to us. Keep in mind, however, that videos won’t be grouped into albums, so good luck sorting them.
Another important aspect to keep in mind is that if you have shared albums in Google Photos, no content will be transferred.
Finally, keep in mind that every file transferred to iCloud will have a name Copy and the original file name.
