My Google Drive was full and this is how I freed up space.

I am a Google Drive user, I pay for the 100GB Google One plan (34 pesos per month or $1.99 per month) and until recently that seemed more than enough for my needs. But recently I started seeing a warning that I was 90% full of my total storage (104GB), so I was asked to change my plan (pay more) or clean out my Drive. Since paying more is not an option, I have been dedicating myself to debugging my Drive, especially Google Photos, which is the one consuming the most space. But since cleaning up photos can be a daunting task, I realized that by deleting videos, especially those that have no reason to be backed up, I was able to postpone the inevitable cleanup, so here I am summing up some tips on how to free up space in your Google. Determine where the “problem” is

The first step is to sign in to your Google account information. If you’re using a mobile device, open the Gmail or Drive app, tap your avatar in the upper right corner, and select Google account. Scroll down until you find the option Account storagewhere you can see in detail how your storage is distributed. In my case, my photos take up 54.77 GB.

If you are using a computer, the steps are almost the same as on a mobile phone.

I think it’s likely that in your case, photos are also taking up the most space on your Drive, so let’s look at Google Photos now.

I find this step easier to do on a computer, so open Google Photos (you can open a Chrome tab and click on the grid in the top right corner if you’re logged in). or click on this link) and on the left side of the screen click Research.

You’ll see several tabs with people who appear most often in your photos, albums, and even at the bottom of the menu. CategoriesHere it is playing. Video. You will see almost all the videos that are backed up in your Photos app. Now scroll and select with your cursor the ones that are not important or worth supporting. In my case, I found several tutorial videos made for Digital Trendsabsurd videos I recorded to send on WhatsApp and even screen recordings.

Just by selecting the “unneeded” videos that are backed up to my Drive, you will free up at least 7GB of space, so I think this simple trick can save you a significant amount.

Other Solutions to Free Up Space on a Full Google Drive

Google Photos offers several tools to help you free up space easily. Perhaps the most useful is to adjust the backup quality in the settings. Save storage space.

To do this, open the Google Photos app on your phone, tap your avatar in the upper right corner and tap Photo settings. Subsequently, in Backup choose Configuration and activate the option Saving storage space.

Another solution is to fine-tune the backups of your folders in Photos. To do this, go back to Photo settings, Backup and in Configuration select option Create a backup copy of the folders. Among the options you will see will be backup screenshots and WhatsApp photos and videos. I suggest you disable them.
