He Samsung Galaxy S25 will be released in January, and we haven’t heard much about the Galaxy S26. Why then have we only just received the first details about the Galaxy S27? The launch is still a generation away, but Samsung is said to be already working on the chipset.

Dubbed “Ulysses”, this new Exynos chipset is still in the early stages of development. Mass production is scheduled for 2026, but a lot can happen in the meantime. Insider Yukanlosreve first learned about this news on the Korean website SEDaily. The article is written in Korean, but I found the translation quite easy to understand. With this new chipset, Samsung is aiming high. The company says it expects a 12% performance improvement over the previous generation, but most impressive is the expected 25% reduction in power. Samsung also wants to reduce the chipset size by 8%. It will be the Exynos 2700, and Samsung plans to produce it using a second-generation 2nm process called SF2P.

The news follows other reports that Samsung is having performance issues with its 3nm Exynos 2500 processor chips. As a result, some experts are speculating that Samsung will instead opt for the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite in the Galaxy S25, but this raises concerns about future chipsets. If Samsung is struggling to reach its production threshold for the 3nm process, producing a new chipset on the 2nm process could prove difficult, especially when Samsung is reporting yields of 10% to 20% when the line base is 60%.

Samsung has big plans for its future devices, but given the increased performance and the market gap between Snapdragon and Exynos, the end result is anyone’s guess.
