Nokia isn’t at the top when we think about the major mobile phone manufacturers these days. But the company made some of the most popular models of the time before smartphones, when mobile devices were called “brick cell phones.”
Even before the Lumia era, the company was successful with cell phones known for their resistance and classic games like “snake”. In a nostalgic mood, let’s remember five of these famous models from the golden age of Nokia in this article! Did you have any of these?
nokia 1100
The tiny Nokia 1100 arrived in 2003, weighing just over 10 centimeters and weighing just 86 grams. However, its dimensions did not prevent the device and its variants from being huge in sales! Not just giants, but the largest in the world.
That’s right, along with models like the Nokia 1100, 1101, and 1108, it’s still considered the best-selling mobile phone in the world, with more than 250 million units distributed since its launch! It was discontinued in 2009, but you can still find it at dealers today.
Nokia 6110
The Nokia 6610 arrived in late 1997 and featured a more business-oriented design. Despite being such an old device, it already incorporated the super popular “snake game” that is still missed today.
It is interesting to remember here that although it is the same device in Brazil, it is licensed by Gradiente to be sold under the Brazilian brand name.
Nokia 2280
This is another model that has become a “stamped figurine” in Brazil. Before smartphones came along, it was hard not to come across someone using the Nokia 2280.
Like the Nokia 1100, the Nokia 2280 could not achieve the same sales figure since it was launched in 2003. The models are similar, but this one tried to sell itself more for the variety of colors on its covers, it even has a special name: Xpress-On.
Nokia 3310
The green screen Nokia 3310 was another big success of the Finnish manufacturer. He came in 2000 and is the main owner of “indestructible” fame. The phone you usually see used in memes talks about how hard these devices were to crack in the past.
The popularity of the device is such that although it wasn’t sold as the 1100, it was the Nokia 3310 selected for a comeback in 2017. It was re-released as a special edition in Europe with a revamped design. even “snake game” and all!
Nokia 5120
The Nokia 5120 was launched in 1998, a year after the Nokia 6610, and has a very similar design – it even looks like a traditional cordless phone.
In other words, it is a device that focuses on functionality rather than looks, does not worry about hiding its antenna, and promises to stay away from the socket for hours. The Nokia 5120 had several variants and even some alternative color options, ensuring a loyal user base in its heyday.
Did you enjoy indulging in some nostalgia? Nokia isn’t as powerful as it once was in the world of mobile devices, but that doesn’t mean the manufacturer has given up! The company has bet on more affordable smartphones, including a very recent announcement, such as the Nokia G11 Plus model.
