In recent months, there have been a lot of speculations around the folding Oppo Find N5, a cell phone, which was believed to be very similar to OnePlus Open 2. However, doubts have come to an end and badly, as OnePlus indicated In the publication in one of his official blogs This “decided not to launch a folding cell phone in 2025.”
This is bad news.

There will not be OnePlus Open 2
Firstly, a small context. Oppo, related to OnePlus in 2021, when both brands began to work on software and hardware. The publication of the OnePlus blog, divided into its community, begins with the company watching the interests of the technological world in Oppo Find N5 and the expectations of the OnePlus phone version.
“In OnePlus, our main strength and passion consist in creating new reference points and contesting status -kVOs in all categories of products,” the company wrote. “With this in mind, we carefully examined the moment and our next steps in folding devices, and we decided not to launch folding this year.”
There is no ambiguity here. It is quite obvious that this year not only the OnePlus Open 2 will appear, but there will also be a compact folding that challenges such phones as Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6 or Motorola Razr Plus. The publication continues to say: “Although this may be a surprise, we believe that this is the right approach to us at this time,” and adds that this will allow Oppo to “take the initiative” in folding.
Will there ever be open 2?

If the N5 find does not turn into Open 2 OnePlus in 2025, this does not make sense to do this in 2026, since it will be technically too late. Few will be glad to fold 2024, renamed in 2026. It seems that OnePlus took a whole year to evaluate how folding phones will be addressed (it calls this “pause” and “redesigning”, which indicates that it does not refuse space completely), but in fact I may have Even more time to think.
Oppo Find N3 arrived at the end of 2023, more or less simultaneously with OnePlus Open. Oppo was glad that the N3 find continued in 2024 (passing Find N4), while OnePlus vaguely resumed Open using the OnePlus Open Apex Edition in the middle of the year. It seems that the N5 find is prepared to be significant progress in relation to finding N3, especially after the crown of a “thinner folding phone in the world” will be accepted for the honor of the Magic V3.
For this reason, Oppo can decide that Find N5 will retain its hopes on a large folding phone until it is well introduced in 2026. OnePlus and Oppo worked together on Find N3/Open, which means that it is unlikely that OnePlus stands out only for the development of Open 2 and wait to jointly develop a continuation on Find N5 with Oppo. When OnePlus decides that you are ready to make another folding phone, it is possible that this device will not reach until 2026. By that time, I could follow the strange decision of the name Oppo and call it OnePlus Open 3.
Why bad news
There are two wonderful reasons why this is bad news. The first is the constant lack of a variety of folding a large screen in the United States, where Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6, Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold and nothing else is located. Both phone are magnificent (Pixel 9 Pro Woft was one of my loved ones last year), but without competition the prices will not decline, and the brands will not feel the need to quickly introduce innovations. OnePlus will tell you that OnePlus Open Apex Edition is a folding of 2025, but we all know that this is a marketing strategy. This is an updated version of Open, which was launched at the end of 2023.
It is also bad news for adoption, which is crucial for the growth of folding in general, and this may be the reason why OnePlus decided not to launch folding this year: they are simply not sold enough so that it should be a fine. The data collected by Counterpoint Research at the end of 2024 showed that the global supplies of folding phones were slightly reduced from July to September, and that Samsung dominates the market with participation by 56%. It is noteworthy that this figure was much less than 70 % of the previous period.
This is not an unexpected event. In its world forecast of folding phones published in early 2024, IDC research company wrote: “Folding was difficult to sell in 2023, since it was difficult for many suppliers to move significant equipment. The market did not fully accept the form -factor. High prices and durability remain a problem for both consumers and suppliers. ”
However, this is not that other brands do not have time in folding. Vivo and Xiaomi received land in 2024 with the X Fold 3 Pro and the mixture are turned over, respectively. Honor continues to produce interesting and innovative folding phones, as well as Tecno with its ghostly series. The ONEPLUS decision (or the Oppo decision, depending on how the association looks) can take part in the competition over the next year. But since the general Oppo/OnePlus business will not affect the Find N5 existence, only users will suffer, especially in the United States, where other mentioned folding is not officially sold.
Where do you leave OnePlus?
The death of OnePlus Open 2 in 2025 is the bad news for us, but does it leave OnePlus in a terrible situation in a year? No, absolutely not. OnePlus began 2025 with the fact that I start to think that this is the best phone, which when it produced, OnePlus 13. It has very few flaws, and its aggressive price means that it really should be at the top of the list of anyone who considers Other phones such as Google Pixel 9 Pro and Samsung Galaxy S25 Plus. I think that this should also be considered seriously over Ultra Galaxy S25. OnePlus 13r also deserves your attention.
Even without Open 2 OnePlus is on the way to the star 2025, but the loud success of OnePlus 13 is something bitter -sweet, because if he introduced the same magic to Open 2, as well as a modest decrease in the strategic price, this could steal the market before old (and slightly boring) Galaxy Z Fold 6 and expensive Pixel 9 Pro Fold. But now, unfortunately, the whole discussion about OnePlus Open 2 has become the case of “what could be.”
