Data from an unknown number of Samsung customers were stolen from the company’s servers at the end of Julyas announced by the company itself in an official statement.
The information retrieved from each client is different in each case. Samsung guarantees that data associated with Social Security or bank cards will not be affected. Nonetheless hackers yes, they could be finished names, contact information, demographics, dates of birth, and product registration information.
This information it was pulled from some Samsung systems in the US. The incident occurred at the end of July, and in early August, after an internal investigation, it was determined that information from an unknown number of customers had been affected. In principle, only customers with US-registered accounts should be affected by the incident.
Samsung ensures that it contacts those people affected by this security incident. If you haven’t received any emails or messages from Samsung, you have nothing to worry about.
However, as a rule, it is always recommended to view recent account activity looking for possible unauthorized logins, using strong passwords, and even activating two-step verification systems.
What is Samsung doing about it?
“We are committed to protecting the security and privacy of our customers. We have hired leading cybersecurity experts and are coordinating with the authorities,” the company said in a statement. “We will continue to work hard to develop and implement immediate and long-term changes to further improve security across all of our systems.”
At the beginning of the year Samsung also fell victim hack. The culprits in this case were Lapsus$, a group that also extracted information from other technology companies such as Nvidia. In particular, almost 200 GB of confidential company data was extracted, including the source code of some technologies developed by the company itself. What was not extracted, according to Samsung, was information about its customers, which remained safe.
