We know almost all the essential features iOS 16 at WWDC last June, but Apple still has exciting news. Now that the new operating system is available for all compatible iPhones, Cupertino says it will soon be possible to recharge your battery using energy from cleaner sources.
This hitherto unknown function is called Charging with clean energy (Clean Power Charge) and will be added to iOS 16 “later this year.” The startling fact is that Apple mentioned this feature at the end of yesterday’s press release on the occasion of the launch of new software for its smartphone.
At the moment, details are scarce. The Californians only indicated that the feature “aims to reduce the iPhone’s carbon footprint by optimizing charge times when the grid uses cleaner energy sources.” How they achieve this remains a mystery. Don’t get too excited, though, as it will only be available in the US.
as assembled 9to5MacCharging with clean energy can determine the moments when the electrical network is less loadedleading to greater availability of energy from clean sources. If so, iOS 16 may be able to adjust the charging power to make better use of those moments. This is speculation, however, and we’ll have to wait for Apple to release more details to see how it actually works.
Apple adds more features to iOS 16
Green Energy Charging adds to the list of features currently unavailable in iOS 16. Those who have installed the new software on their iPhone will notice the absence of long-awaited features such as:
- Live events: Map with real-time information displayed on the lock screen.
- Shared iCloud Photo Library: A new, easy and automated way to share iPhone photos with friends and family.
- Apple Pay Later: a system of financing purchases in installments, without interest and directly from the iPhone. This is a major new feature in iOS 16 as Apple dives deeper into financial services (besides the Apple Card). It is worth clarifying that its action will be limited to the United States.
- Other notable absences support Matter Standard —for connecting smart home devices—, Game center renovation and cooperation through free form.
Apple implies that all these features, along with green energy charging, They will arrive in the same update. It will be necessary to see if this is actually the case, or if the availability is segmented a little more depending on how polished the implementation of each is.
For now, if you haven’t updated your iPhone to iOS 16 yet, here’s how to do it and which devices are compatible. Keep in mind that some features, such as the battery percentage indicator, will not be available in all Cupertino-designed smartphone models.
