The decision not to include a charger in iPhone boxes as an environmental measure continues to weigh on Apple, at least in Brazil. State Court of Sao Paulo fined the Cupertino company 100 million reais (about $19 million) considering it an “insult” to not provide a charger. Claiming that this forces consumers to “buy a second product to make the first one work.”

The court, according to Barronsalso wants to force Apple to offer a charger to all those users who have purchased an iPhone 12 or iPhone 13. in the last two years of the model, which, let’s remember, do not include this component in the box. Therefore, the Sao Paulo civil court judge also wants to force the Cupertino company to include a charger in all new purchases.

“Obviously, by justifying the “green initiative”, the defendant imposes on the consumer the mandatory purchase of charging adapters that were previously supplied with the product.”

Court of Sao Paulo.

Meanwhile, Apple confirmed that appeal against the verdict, which took the decision following a lawsuit filed by the Brazilian Consumer Association. The company also filed an appeal against a previous government ruling. Specifically, Brazil banned the firm from selling their iPhone throughout the country unless they included a charger. The ban also comes with a $2.3 million fine.
