In recent weeks, the first rumors about possible characteristics have appeared. iPhone SE 4. Apple is expected to introduce said handset in 2023 or 2024 with an expected design update. However, the Cupertino experts will still have to determine the most important aspects of the device, such as screen size.

According to a new rumor from Ross Young (via MacRumors), the California-based firm is considering two possibilities for the fourth-generation iPhone SE: 5.7 or 6.1 inches. It is not yet known when a final decision on the panel will be made, but it looks like Apple is saying goodbye to the 4.7-inch panel used before the version released this year.

But Apple will not only discuss the screen size that will be used in the iPhone SE 4, but also its technology. Those in Cupertino will be considering 6.1-inch OLED panels from two vendors, as well as 5.7-inch and 6.1-inch LCD panels from two other manufacturers, Yang said.

Without a doubt, a 6.1-inch OLED screen will mean a monumental leap – both in size and quality – for the iPhone SE. But it can also mean an increase in the cost of production and, therefore, the retail price.

Will the next iPhone SE have an OLED screen?

Recall that the third-generation model, presented in March last year, is sold in Spain from 559 euros, and its most expensive version costs 759 euros. You have to see to what extent Apple has room to update its hardware and design. without making it so expensive that its presence in the catalog loses its meaning.

After all, the idea behind the iPhone SE is to offer a phone capable of offering a user experience similar to the “big” iPhones, but with logical concessions. From size and form factor to certain features reserved for core catalog members.

Thus, the design change for the fourth generation is absolutely logical. Rumors indicate that the aesthetic of the iPhone SE 4 will no longer be inherited from the iPhone 6, 7 and 8. and from iPhone xp. The big question, as we’ve said, is whether Apple’s ability to cost-effectively close out the possibility of equipping it with a 6.1-inch OLED screen, like on the iPhone 14 or iPhone 14 Pro.

It’s also not entirely clear if the larger screen sizes and design change will mean the appearance of Face ID in the iPhone SE 4, to the detriment of Touch ID. Today, of course, there are more rumors than certainties. One thing is clear: we still have a few months before we see this new version in action.
