Magic is back in the game Honorand not with one, but two The new Magic-branded smartphones will be unveiled during MWC 2023. The Honor Magic 5 Pro joins the Honor Magic Vs foldable smartphone and is the company’s latest “regular” unfoldable flagship.
Like many Honor phones over the years, it’s all about the camera and unusual design.
On the back of the Magic 5 Pro is a large round camera module with three cameras inside. Honor calls the unusual module her “Star Wheel Triple Camera” and it certainly stands out. The phone comes in two different colors: standard black or a very cool looking meadow green. There is no doubt that green remains one of the trendiest colors for smartphones, last seen on the OnePlus 11.
This is a large and heavy device. It is 8.7mm thick and weighs 219 grams and the screen is 6.81 inches. The panel features a 120Hz dynamic refresh rate, LTPO technology, 2160Hz PWM dimming to reduce flicker, 1800nits maximum brightness, and a resolution of 2848 x 1312 pixels. It is curved on the sides, top and bottom for seamless integration with the case and back.
Inside the crazy-looking Star Wheel camera module is a 50MP main camera with optical image stabilization, a 50MP wide-angle camera, and a 50MP telephoto lens with 3.5x optical zoom. Honor is also promoting 100x digital zoom, as well as AI-powered motion capture, 30x macro, and a “Falcon Capture” algorithm that promises to speed up everything from focusing to image processing.
Other camera features include laser autofocus, color temperature sensor, flicker sensor, and Honor’s Ultra Fusion computational photography technology. On the front of the phone is a 12-megapixel selfie camera and a 3D depth camera for secure face unlock. The camera can record 4K video at up to 60fps and is HDR10+ certified.
A Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor powers the Honor Magic 5 Pro along with 12GB of RAM and 512GB of storage. A large 5100mAh battery powers everything and is charged with a 66W SuperCharge wired system or a 50W wireless charger. To achieve this battery capacity, Honor chose a LiCoO2 graphite battery, which provides more capacity in the same volume as a more standard cell. used in other devices.
Finally, the Honor Magic 5 Pro has an IP68 dust and water resistance rating, stereo speakers, a fingerprint sensor, and Android 13 with MagicOS 7.1 software. Honor promises two years of major software updates and four years of security updates. At the time of writing, Honor hasn’t announced the price or availability of the Magic 5 Pro, but we’ll let you know when it’s available.
