OnePlus is no stranger to pushing the boundaries of innovation in the smartphone industry, and its latest concept device, OnePlus 11 Concept, he wants to do it again.
Announced in Mobile World CongressOnePlus 11 concept has the same internal specs as One Plus 11, which was released earlier this year but includes a new active cooling technology called Active CryoFlux. More importantly, it’s also impressive to watch.
Active CryoFlux is designed to keep the OnePlus 11 Concept cool while charging or using GPU intensive games. This speeds up loading times from 30 seconds to 45 seconds and can maintain consistent frame rates and overall game performance without significantly increasing the weight or size of the device. It does this by pumping coolant through pipes on the back of the OnePlus 11 Concept, which can reportedly drop the phone’s temperature by more than 35 degrees Fahrenheit (1.6 degrees Celsius) while gaming.
You can see the liquid cooling move across the transparent back of the phone, with the blue liquid even wrapping around the round camera body. Not only that, the camera is also surrounded by “Guilloche Engraving”. OnePlus describes it as “a very precise decorative technique commonly used in luxury watches” and this is the first time the technique has been used on a smartphone.
But as the name suggests, the OnePlus 11 Concept is just a concept device. Obviously, there is hope that OnePlus will use a PC-like cooling system in a future device, but at the moment there are no definite plans to implement this in a phone that you can actually buy. OnePlus has shown similar concept phones in the past that didn’t lead to anything tangible, so while it would be nice if Active CryoFlux was the next big thing OnePlus has in store, I wouldn’t hold my breath waiting for it.
While Active CryoFlux is nothing special right now, it is an interesting technology that will be useful, especially for gamers who play a lot on their phones. Based on what can be achieved with similar PC cooling technology, it seems that Active CryoFlux internal cooling tubes are the next logical step for mobile gaming. Illuminated pipes are Really elegant, which makes the OnePlus 11 concept feel like something made by Nothing.
I hope OnePlus does anything with the ideas used in the OnePlus 11 concept, as they are very promising and the phone is not just a flex for MWC. Maybe it will come to another OnePlus phone later this year? Maybe on OnePlus 12? It’s hard to say for sure, but we can certainly cross our fingers and wait.
